Short answer: focus versus breadth
| Priority | First option | Reason | Visible limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| See the last reference and decide the next set | BUSTAFIT | Load, reps, RIR, history and guidance share one hypertrophy flow | iPhone only; it does not claim JEFIT's breadth |
| Build and explore many routines and exercises | JEFIT | Large library, plans, custom exercises and several set labels | Check that breadth does not slow your log |
| Use web or watch as well as mobile | JEFIT | Its documentation publishes mobile, watch and web surfaces | Test the sync you actually need |
| Follow a plan that updates weekly | JEFIT Adaptive Plan | The brand publishes four-week blocks and adjustments from logs | This is official product language, not a guaranteed outcome |
Both apps can remember what happened and help you progress. JEFIT explicitly says it recalls previous weights and reps; its Adaptive Plan reads logs and proposes the next week. The honest difference is priority: BUSTAFIT puts the useful reference and perceived effort at the centre of the next action, while JEFIT tries to cover more jobs around it.
Symmetric table: the same job in both columns
| Criterion | BUSTAFIT | JEFIT | Test to run |
|---|---|---|---|
| Logging | Load, repetitions, RIR, rest timer and history | Sets, weight, reps, notes, set types and timers | Correct one set without leaving the exercise |
| Previous context | Last useful reference and load or rep guidance | Weight and rep recall, history, PRs, volume and 1RM | Find the last comparable exposure |
| Planning | Structured routines and coach-assigned blocks | Custom routines, templates and Adaptive Plan | Edit one exercise without breaking the week |
| Library | Alternatives inside the training environment | Large library with instructions and programs | Find and save one exact variation |
| Surfaces | iPhone according to the official listing | Mobile, watch and web published; App Store confirms iPhone and Apple Watch | Log from the device you will use |
| Exit | Review available options before making it your archive | The official logging page publishes history export | Download and open one exact session |
This table does not reward JEFIT for having more boxes or BUSTAFIT for having fewer. A narrow option can be excellent when it removes taps and keeps the decision visible; a broad one can be better when it replaces three tools. Judge the work completed with the least loss of context.
We also keep access levels separate. JEFIT publishes Adaptive Plan and advanced tools in its current offer, with part of the product tied to Elite. Before deciding, open the tier you would actually pay for and confirm what it includes in your region. For BUSTAFIT, the public reference here is its iPhone listing.
Timed test: four paths, one workout
- Prepare the same routine
Create four exercises with three sets and the same rep range. Start timing when the app opens and stop when the workout is ready to run.
- Log a real set
Save weight, repetitions and effort where the field exists. Correct one value and note whether the timer or previous context disappears.
- Make one substitution
Swap an exercise for busy equipment. Check whether the new variation keeps separate history and whether returning to the original is easy.
- Find the next decision
Without hunting through menus, explain what you would attempt next time and which result supports it. If you cannot, the flow has not completed the job.
| Path | BUSTAFIT time | JEFIT time | Observed friction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Create routine | Measure on your iPhone | Measure on your device | Menus, search or fields you do not need |
| Save and correct set | Measure on the same exercise | Measure on the same exercise | Lost focus or extra confirmation |
| Substitute and return | Record continuity | Record continuity | Mixed history or hard return |
| Understand what comes next | Write the decision | Write the decision | A graph without action or an order without reason |
One datum that must not disappear
If the last exposure was 80 kg × 9 at RIR 2, the next target needs the exercise, variation and context. BUSTAFIT documents that reference with practical guidance. JEFIT documents load and rep recall and, in Adaptive Plan, recommendations. Test whether either app makes you confuse a different variation with the same lift.
Where JEFIT is stronger and where we prefer BUSTAFIT
| Need | Advantage | Documented reason |
|---|---|---|
| Library and programs | JEFIT | It publishes a broad collection, filters, templates and custom exercises |
| Web and watch | JEFIT | It advertises mobile, watch and web; its iOS listing includes Apple Watch |
| Documented export | JEFIT | The logging page publishes workout-history export |
| Last reference beside the set | BUSTAFIT | Its listing places load, reps, RIR and guidance in the same contract |
| Specific hypertrophy focus | BUSTAFIT | The public proposition centres on routine, RIR and the next exposure |
We like BUSTAFIT for the athlete who already knows which block is running and does not want the log to become another project. We would not recommend it from pride when you need Android, web, Apple Watch or a very large library: JEFIT documents that ground more clearly and deserves a serious trial.
Migrate without turning two apps into two truths
- Keep a JEFIT export or copy when available and verify that the file opens.
- Move the active routine first: exact exercise names, recent exposures and notes that change execution.
- During overlap, log in one app only; the other is for checking, not for building a parallel history.
- After three sessions, ask whether the migration reason disappeared without losing a platform, plan or datum you actually used.
You do not need to copy a decade of training to discover whether the new flow works. Six comparable weeks for anchor exercises usually offer more useful context than thousands of rows you never open. Preserve the old archive and build the new source of truth deliberately.
