Four valid signs that you are getting stronger

You can also use a formal test such as a 1RM when it is appropriate, programmed and standardized. You do not need weekly max attempts to recognize progress: regular working sets contain useful signals when the log preserves their context.

Reading four workouts
Machine A row, seat 4, two-minute rest, 2 RIR: 65 × 10, 65 × 11, 65 × 12 and 67.5 × 10. The fourth exposure starts a new load but keeps variation, standard and effort; together, the series supports improved task-specific strength.
RIR is an imperfect estimate, particularly farther from failure. Keep the same scale and similar context when comparing sets; do not treat a comfortable set and an all-out set as equivalent results.

Why more strength does not automatically mean more muscle
Strength is task-specific and can improve through learning, coordination and neural adaptations as well as morphological change. Training studies show that strength and hypertrophy respond to programming, but they are not two locked gauges. A strength improvement is therefore a performance signal, not a direct measure of muscle growth.
- More efficient technique can raise a result without a proportional change in muscle size.
- A new variation can improve quickly through familiarization.
- A body outcome needs its own method, time window and error control.
- The practical goal is to read every outcome for what it actually measures.
