Quick verdict: decide who should carry the plan
| Your situation | Start with | Main reason | Do not choose it if… |
|---|---|---|---|
| You already own a routine and train on iPhone | BUSTAFIT | Load, reps, RIR and the last useful exposure sit beside the next decision | You expect the app to design the whole mesocycle |
| You want a guided hypertrophy cycle | RP Hypertrophy App | It starts from a mesocycle and adjusts load, reps and volume with feedback | You want to control every programming choice yourself |
| You like programming but hesitate mid-session | BUSTAFIT first | It leaves structure in your hands and brings context to the set | You need a guided library that delivers the complete cycle |
| You want to open the app and follow weekly progression | RP first | Its official model includes progression within the mesocycle and a final deload | You only need a light log for your own plan |
There is no universal winner here. BUSTAFIT feels at home when the routine already exists and the real problem is remembering what happened last time and choosing today’s attempt. RP makes sense when that earlier problem is still open: you do not want to build and adjust the weekly sequence alone.
Symmetric matrix: the same questions for both apps
| Criterion | BUSTAFIT | RP Hypertrophy App | What you should test |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starting point | A structured routine you have already chosen | Published templates or a custom mesocycle | Whether you want to write the plan or receive its structure |
| Set logging | Load, repetitions and RIR on iPhone | Performance plus stimulus, recovery and workload feedback | How long a real correction takes |
| Next decision | Last useful reference and practical guidance | Load, repetition and set adjustments inside the cycle | Whether you understand what produced the change |
| Volume | Does not claim automatic mesocycle-volume control | Can add, hold or reduce sets from published feedback inputs | What happens after two sessions with different outcomes |
| Deload | No automatic deload is claimed in the reviewed source | The final mesocycle week is a deload and moves when cycle length changes | Whether the timing matches the block you intended |
| Verified surface | iPhone | Web plus the reviewed native App Store listing | The device you will actually carry |
| Manual control | Routine structure remains yours | The mesocycle is customizable and sets can be edited | Whether you can correct guidance without damaging history |
This matrix avoids two misleading shortcuts. We do not call an app less intelligent because it leaves programming with the athlete, and we do not call every post-workout suggestion automatic programming. Supporting a decision from history and governing a full training cycle are different jobs.
We also leave out prices and stars. They can change by date and storefront, and neither is needed to understand the central trade-off. Check the official store or site immediately before choosing.
How the difference plays out over four weeks
| Moment | With BUSTAFIT | With RP | Decision not to delegate blindly |
|---|---|---|---|
| Before training | You arrive with an already structured routine | You configure or select a mesocycle | Whether exercises and frequency fit your life |
| First exposure | You establish load, reps and RIR context | You log performance and training feedback | Whether technique and tolerance are acceptable |
| Following week | You read the prior reference and choose the attempt | The app proposes load, repetition or set progression | Whether the recommendation fits available equipment |
| Poor performance | Context remains visible for an adjustment without erasing history | Feedback can alter future volume | Whether this is one bad afternoon or a pattern |
| End of the cycle | You decide when to deload or change blocks | The final week is reserved for a deload under the documented model | What you learned and should keep |
Example: dumbbell press, 30 kg × 9 at 2 RIR
In BUSTAFIT, that exposure becomes the reference for the next attempt in your routine. In RP, performance joins the mesocycle path and the feedback you provide to adjust prescription. The set can contain the same number while serving a different decision contract.
That distinction matters more than menu length. If you enjoy programming, a system that stays out of your plan can feel wonderfully clear. If programming drains attention or makes you change direction every week, RP’s structure may give you the continuity you are missing.
Test both without pretending you already have hands-on evidence
- Session 1: normal
Load the same workout, record every set and note how quickly you recover prior context. Do not change the routine to flatter one app.
- Session 2: one set below target
Keep the exercise and let one set land clearly short. Observe what each product returns and who ultimately makes the adjustment.
- Session 3: equipment occupied
Substitute one movement, return to the original later and check whether history remains readable and the plan still makes sense.
- Week 2: name the authority
Write one sentence naming who decided load, reps, sets and deload. If you cannot, the interface may be taking more control than you intended.
| Question | Answer you want | Good-fit signal | Practical veto |
|---|---|---|---|
| Can I recover the previous reference? | Yes, without digging through screens | The first working set has a clear intention | You begin by guessing |
| Do I understand the guidance? | I can tie it to performance or feedback | I know when to accept, hold or correct it | You obey an opaque number |
| Does substitution preserve context? | Each variant keeps separate history | Returning to the original does not mix loads | Different exercises are treated as identical |
| Is the plan still mine? | Authority matches what I meant to delegate | You are not fighting the app every session | You edit everything to undo its proposal |
Our recommendation, warmly and with clear limits
We built BUSTAFIT for the lifter who reaches the gym with a recognizable routine and wants a short conversation with their own history: last useful exposure, today’s target and a sensible fallback if performance drops. That narrow focus is deliberate. We will not market it here as a complete mesocycle generator because the reviewed listing does not say that.
RP Hypertrophy App deserves the first trial when you want the opposite: a structure that organizes the cycle, changes load, reps and sets with feedback, and places a deload. In that situation, presenting BUSTAFIT as an identical replacement would not help you.
